Map Your Vision

The Vision Board is your road map to success. It is a “must have” especially when you are in change mode. If you have never created a vision board before, you may be thinking that its just a silly craft or a crazy collage, but it is really so much more! Going through the exercise of gathering the items, arranging them, adding color and texture is very therapeutic when going through or contemplating change. It is a powerful visualization technique that provides motivation, and will keep you focused on your intentions.

How to create a vision board:

  • Use a small cork or poster board
  • Cover it with a desired background or fabric
  • If desired make a border
  • Gather pictures and motivational quotes that represent your goals and inspire you
  • Make a collage out of the pictures
  • Add words of affirmation
  • Add objects to create texture
  • Place it in an area where you can look at it for a few minutes daily or while working or creating
  • Be open to revising it, when you find that your goals have shifted or if you find something new and exciting to add.

Examples:

This was a board that I created 2 years ago. I made it at a time when I may have been feeling unseen, which makes sense when you see the lack of color. This was more of an expression of how I was feeling rather than my vision, unless my vision was to fade into the background, because that I did! Keep this in mind when choosing your pictures and quotes.

Here is the revised Vision Board. There are a few images and quotes that remain, but color and inspiration are vibrant. The quotes are a reflection of hope and desired transformation. It will be interesting to see further revisions, as my personal transformation continues.

Here is the most recent…

As I compare the three, I can state with confidence that I have overcome some personal challenges, I went from a colorless vision in the first example, in many ways represents having a bit of my soul drained from me. The second one (although I didn’t realize it at the time) I had off loaded negativity and moved away from thoughts and patterns that no longer served me. I was also doing my diligence to continue to be a blessing to others.

My my latest revision, which was done two months prior to posting, I am ready take a walk down the next path and do some work. My professional journey has transformed from leadership to support. I have mirrored that in my personal life. In doing so, I have achieved a work-life balance, that no longer drains my soul, and I have learned to trust again. Wings, feathers, books, open doors, purple and love. Its all there! I look forward to doing the work, while travelling a bit “lighter.”

Map your vision. Make sure you are open to revisions, and when you do, please recognize the growth. Then dare to dream and map the next part of your journey. Lather, rinse, repeat!
